| Masters (Adult) – Intermediate / Competitive
Eligibility: All rowers
must be Full or Weekend Members of GMS Rowing Center.
Structure: Two or three day a week programs will be organized to meet the requirements of members who would like coached sessions. Details of additional sessions will be posted in the Weekly Bulletin and will appear on the Web site.
Content: These programs will cater to adult rowers with some previous experience. Coaching will be available for both sweep rowers and Scullers. Participants can sign up for programs that will cover 4-week segments. These will consist of 8 or 12 sessions. Coaching will help athletes build their endurance and prepare them for races they may wish to attend. Single Scullers wishing to have private instruction may make their own arrangements for one-on-one coaching directly with our coaching staff..
Daily Schedule: (Dependant
on numbers)
- Competitive Scullers:
Sessions will start at 7.00am ending at 8:30am twice during the
week on Tuesdays and Thursday mornings. (This schedule may change
depending on the requirements of the group).
- Intermediate/Competitive:
Subject to numbers morning sessions will start at 7:30am ending
at 9:00am three times during the week and will be on Monday, Tuesday
and Thursday mornings. Afternoon sessions will start at 6:00pm
ending at 7:30pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Other
timings can be arranged subject to a minimum of four or more rowers
signing up for a monthly program. Those only rowing twice a week
can choose which days they prefer.
Racing:
- Spring and summer: Participants in our Masters program will be encouraged to race. A list of scheduled regattas may be obtained by visiting US Rowling’s website as well as the Row 2K internet site. Participants may wish to prepare for competition at US Masters Nationals (for 2010 this will be held at Camden, NJ).
- Head racing in the
fall: Races we typically attend include “The Riverfront Recapture” race in Hartford, CT; the “Head of the Housatonic” in Shelton CT.; GMS Regatta; the Green Mountain Head in Putney, VT; the Head of the Charles in Boston and the Head of the Fish, Saratoga, NY.
Costs: Per four week
courses are $300 for three times a week or $200 for twice a week.
This is dependent on a minimum number of rowers signing up.
Dates: The Spring Season
starts (subject to water conditions) on Monday April 5th and finishes
on Friday October 29th. (Please refer to Web site for course dates).
